I just got my handspring
I just got my handspring fixed. I had a line going through my screen, but that problem was solved. ironically, the place to send broken handsprings is in Louisville, KY, so i was able to walk in and get it fixed instead of having to ship it.
Anyhow, today i found the DicePro app for Palm mad by Rival Games Lab Let me tell you right now, it rocks! It can do hero, earthdawn, THAC0s, and almost every type of roll that I can imagine. The only thing Ii haven’t been able to do (so far, and I’m still experimenting) is 4d6, take best three….
I emailed the maintainers of the app. When someone does something you like, give them, some RESPECT and some LOVE: remember, the noosphere is all about respect and love.
“The Language of the Living
“The Language of the Living Dead” or “How To Understand Recruiters”
“Finding a recruiter willing to work on these terms is easy: all it requires is a disorganized pathological liar with no imagination, an IQ below 60, an atrophied sense of basic ethics, and an obsession with becoming a millionaire before turning 30. Business schools put these out all of the time.”
My experience with recruiters only reinforces this statement. Hey any recruiters out there get a clue. Learn something about the field you are recruiting for, example learn the difference between Perl and Java. Learn to be accommodating, when a prospective recruite says they can’t talk at work then make yourself available after business hours. Remember you are a service industry, to the employer and employee, so serve. You have a job because of us.
Another peve, from the talk of recruiters, job listings, and companies hiring, everyone out there has 50-100 employees, is planning on hiring 2-3 times that number in the next year, and will be IPOing with in the year. I just have a hard time believing you when you just send like everyone else. Something to remember the most valuable “capitol” are your employees. Treat potential employees like your Venture Capitol because we are just as hard to “acquire”.
A definition, “the company is moving real quick on hiring for the position” really means 6-12 months from now they might be making a decision. Why do companies what a new employee to start the day of the offer, not allowing for the standard 2 weeks notice and posable moving time, but allow weeks to elapse between contacting the applicant?
So can you tell I have been frustrated by the job searching process 🙂

Interview: CmdrTaco and Hemos Tell
Interview: CmdrTaco and Hemos Tell All
The slashdot guys get interviewed. The question of “practicing what you preach” is brought up. Basicly the code that runs slashdot is released but it is a very old version. CmdrTaco mentions having more important things to do with their time than clean up code for release. Problem guys, release it even if the code sucks. Maybe some of that time that is taken up fixing bugs would leave if others could attack the bugs, kinda a big plus to sharing the source. It isn’t about being perfect, just do it. Posted comment on slashdot “Not to be a jerk about it, but perhaps if the process were more open, there’d be someone who would write the install scripts and whatnot for you. Making huge projects manageable is part of what open source is all about, isn’t it?”
BTW: engel you were right yesterday. I just like to argue when NT is giving me fits 🙂
Interview: Steve Wozniak Unbound
Woz sounds like one great guy. The interview is almost as inetresting as the man himself.

“Consider the situation of two trauma surgeons arriving at an accident scene. The patient is bleeding profusely. If surgeons were like programmers, they’d leave the patient to bleed out in order to have a really satisfying argument over the merits of two different kinds of tourniquet.”
found at Philip Greenspun‘s Vignette StoryServer review
It is scary how true that statement is between friends who are programmers, now imagine what it is like amongst enemies.
Another highlight…
“What most people need is someone to tell them what to do. It is cheaper and better to adopt a false religion than to remain a skeptical atheist, seeking after truth oneself. Of course, it is better and cheaper still to adopt a reasonable religion.”
