OpenNIC is a user owned
OpenNIC is a user owned and controlled Network Information Center offering a democratic, non-national, alternative to the traditional Top-Level Domain registries. In case you were looking for them, the traditonal TLDs are currently served by Network Solutions with policies set by ICANN.
Digital Bill of Rights sounds
Digital Bill of Rights sounds like a good start to moving some of that Corporate power, as shown by the new TLD process, and moving it to the individual.
ICANN: 7 Out of 44
ICANN: 7 Out of 44 Ain’t Bad but it ain’t good either. Looks like there will be 7 new TLDs:
- .name personal sites
- .pro professionals, doctor, laywer and accounting types
- .museam secialty
- .aero secialty
- .coop secialty
- .biz for competition inthe .com space
- .info for competition inthe .com space
Not too happy with their new TLDs, Top Level Domain names, they don’t seem very usful of all the posiablities. Although maybe with .name I can register a domain for my family. Hopefully corporations will not be allowed to get into the .name space.

Suit questions Bush-Cheney claim to TX votes
A federal lawsuit filed here Monday says George W. Bush and Dick Cheney can’t legally claim Texas’ 32 electoral votes because both are inhabitants of the state — a violation of the 12th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
The amendment prohibits a state’s electors from voting for both a president and vice president from their state. Cheney has lived and worked in Texas for eight years but switched his voter registration to Wyoming in July to try to avoid the constitutional conflict.
Not havingthe 32 Texas electoral votes would probably send it to the House to decide the presidency.
I’m reminded of an ancient Chinese curse, “May you live in intresting times..”
