Hair Donation

I’m looking for a worthy cause to donate my hair. In case you didn’t know I have kinda long hair. Have not had it cut at all in almost 2 years. Now I have heard of places that take hair donations for wigs of folks that lose their hair as part of cancer treatments but can’t find any in the Vancover. So if anyone out there has a good lead or specific info post in the comments.
Oh, and any of my fellow long haired folks that might be intrested in joining also sound off.

I’ve slipped an email to somebody whose sister-in-law had to buy a synthetic wig. I can’t remember exactly the numbers, but I think it’s cheaper to buy new synthetic wigs then real hair ones… I can’t remember exactly though. I’ll let you know if/when I hear anything back.

There’s an organization called “Locks for Love”, which takes the hair & makes wigs for child cancer patients. A few of the hairdressers in Abbotsford are affiliated with them, I think… you should call around & find out.

Good god man why! Long hair rules.. you’ll break up the Trio Of Hippies! I don’t want to be alone and be the only cool long haired guy here! Think of the pain and hardship of actually *finding a style*, or figuring out how to comb it differently! Hell, what will you do with all those hair ties!

It depends on how short you cut it… I cut mine every 4 weeks, and it’s 0 work to keep it styled… 2 flicks with a comb when I come out the shower, and that’s it. And it dries way faster. If you keep it longer then you start having to worry about gel and all that other crap…

2 years,…..
you grew it for 2 yrs. a few years ago i walked in to a unisex shop and i said ….take about 8 years off !!! That was 25 years ago and i’m now thinking of getting the last 5 years off and donating it to a good thing !

Okay so I also just cut about 1 foot in length off my head, and am trying to find a place to donate it to. Please mail any possible sites.

just cut mine off today and donated it here (17 inches – sigh had to need a job):

I am also wanting to donate my hair to cancer can you help me find out how. JUNE 2, 2003

i want to donate my hair but its not quite long enought! does anyone know about a place that takes 8 inches?

My 6 year old daughter has long hair & is ready to cut it before school starts. She wants to send hers to Wigs for Kids (www.wigsforkids.org). They show the entire process on line, and if you want to donate, but do not want to part with your locks, you can send a cash donation, or adopt a kid. These wigs are custom made for each child, for a perfect fit.

This is a for the person (Katie) asking about donations of 8″ hair. Good luck!

I used to have really long blonde hair but I cut it off in hopes of donating. I was just wondering, does anyone know where I can donate 8 inches? Preferably in the U.S.

I live in Californa and recently found out that my mother has cancer and will have to have chemotherepy. I have long hair and have previously donated to Locks of Love but this time I want to donate my hair to a place that will make a wig for an adult, namely for my mom. Does anyone know of an organization that will make a wig for an adult (a specific adult) with cancer?

Hi my name is Stacy. I cut off 15 inches of my hair today, just so that I can donate my hair to a worthy cause. I donate my hair to Locks of Love. I have the hair and don’t know where to donate it to. Could you help me and send me information to someone in my area that can help these kids. I really want to get a hair cut by summer and help the kids feel better about them selves. My hair is in your hands. I would give my phone number, but most of the time I am not there and don’t have an ansering machine.
Thank you
Dave

TO SARAH IN CALIFORNIA: the same exact thing has happened to me. i would like to donate my hair for a wig for my mother. were you able to find a place that would make one for you? i have been looking for a while but no luck.

I have donated 24″ total to Locks of Love so far and am about to send them another 12″. This is what you need to know :
 There’s a 10″ minimum for hair length (when pulled straight) and it must be bundled in a ponytail or braid;
 Permed and colored hair is OK. All colors (exp. grey – sorry!), all types. Bleached or chemically damaged hair is not accepted.
 Your donation does not need to be new hair – hair is hair, male or female, doesn’t matter whether it’s a 10-day-old ponytail or a 10-year-old ponytail;
 it must be clean, dry and packaged so that it will not fall apart during shipping – a Ziploc bag and a padded envelope will do just fine.
Mail donations to Locks of Love, 2925 10th Avenue, Suite #102, Lake Worth FLORIDA 33461.
All of this information and more is available at http://www.locksoflove.org

I am trying to donate my hair which is 8″. I have not had any luck trying to find the minimum of 8″ can anyone help me.

The LOCKS OF LOVE website notes in their Q&A page, as well as the Spanish version of the guidelines, that they WILL accept hair 6″ to 9″ but not use it for wigs, but to sell it and help offset the cost of the wigs manufacturing. In my humble opinion, this is still a good cause since it takes more than the actual hair to manufacture each wig. If my hair needs to be sold, then by all means, it benefits the kids anyway!!

TO SARAH IN CALIFORNIA and melody!!! Please let me know if you have had any luck finding some info. I too want to donate hair for a wig, to my sister-in-law and can’t find any help as far as where this can be done. Thanks Stef

I’ve got about 6 inches going on now and would like to donate it as soon as possible. I’ve got gorgeous curly brown hair, so at work (waiter at Broadway Pizza) all the elderly ladies try to quote unquote from an 80 yr old “Hustle me” because of it. Wow-Booming Granny just flashed into my head-Beastie Boys for all you disrespectful music legend haters. Yeah, that and it gets in the way of my vision. Now I physically can’t see shit coming. So if anyone knows of a place that excepts shorter hair (I’m willing to keep it growing) but I’d like for my hair to go for free-you know the kids that can’t afford it. All charitable like. Thats the highest level of the Mitzvah of tzedakah. Not knowing the reciever nor the giver. sorry- can’t help my philosophical self. Right-so now that you’ve wasted your time reading my incessant babbling, please let me know. And buy Nappy Comics when I finally get them started. They’re all about superhero’s doing charity. yeah. Hit me up if you’d like to hear about it. it’s a much more articulated idea then…well yeah. ya dont care i get it peace out

I would also like to sell my hair. I have donated in the past, but cannot afford to donate now. I have about 24 inches of unprocessed, wavy, red hair. It is very thick and in excellent condition. I mean… strangers touch me in public! They stop me in parking lots and pet me in restaurants. I am ready to get less attention. Please email if you want to buy it. I will harvest and mail it to your specifications.

I am also trying to help my mom out; she has alopecia areata, and her friends and I want to know where we can donate our hair to make a wig or better yet a prostesis specifically for her, because she can no longer afford a prostesis. Has anyone found a place yet that makes these for adults?
