I remember the riots.
I was working as a temp in the call center for Amazon.com, in their former Securities Building office located between 3rd and 4th St.
As the rioting escalated outside, our shift was ending. Instead of being allowed to leave the building thru a front or back door, we were escorted out the door into the parking garage and they slammed it behind us. As it turned out the gate was locked and we were trapped in the garage. Just then a huge cloud of teargas erupted next to us.. As we ran up to the next level to get away, we approached the other side of the building and we were tear gassed again from that side. I thought I was going to die.
Some of the managers of the office made it to thier cars and the safty of air conditioned air. As a couplle of temps and myself banged on the door and begged to be let in, they just looked at us blankly. We were JUST temps. Then ANOTER teargass went off in the garage. We started hanging from the ledge of the 2nd floor and dropping to the sidewalk below, trying to avoid being clubbed or shocked with the exploding charges being fired by the police.
We were just trying to go home.
None of us could afford to stay home from work that day.
We almost were killed over a lousy paycheck.
