Last night was my first Wheelthrowing class at Kentucky Mudworks. Wheelthrowing is spinning clay on a wheel, hopefully turning it into something desired.
It was me and 9 women, counting the instructors. Strangely it all seemed to come kinda natural to me but the women taking the class for the first time were having lots of trouble. I did have a problem on my first bowl. At first when getting it all centered the wheel has to spin pretty fast. When doing the shaping the speed needs to be dropped or eventually as the sides of the bowl get higher it can spin out of shape. Damm that centrifical force!
It was lots of fun. There is something rather relaxing about playing in mud and making something with your hands. Looking forward to the next 5 weeks of classes.
