It almost seems as if Microsoft .NET doesn’t fill a single customer need, it only fills Microsoft’s need to find something for 10,000 programmers to do for the next 10 years. The sad fact is that there are very few artists for whom any record company will spend millions of dollars. They only do that if they think they have a sure thing, and a sure thing in their eyes is the one that sells the most CDs, not the one who’ll do the best at live shows, or the one who will stay popular for the longest. They’re in it for the quick buck, not the long haul, and once you’re not in vogue anymore, they just drop your contract.
