Doom 3 Duct Tape

|

Duct Tape mod for Doom 3 assumes that there has to be some duct tape around to attach your flashlight to your shotgun and such. There is also Doom 3 Flashlight + Pistol.

Which brings me to one of my annoyance in Doom 3. In 2004 stardard issue military, and most police, firearms have a flashlight attachment. Even in broad daylight the flashlight is on almost every rifle. So what happend in the furture these attachments become a lost technology? Also if every police show has cops using the flashlight in one hand and pistol how come in the future this is a lost skill?

If the use of flashlight and weapon would destory the "experience" then take the flashlight away but dammit not letting them both be used at the same time is pretty fsck'n stupid.

Doom 3

|

I didn't do like many and rush out to pick up Doom 3 on tuesday but waited til last night :) Inital reaction on the graphics, "OH MY FSCK'N GOD! How did they do those awesome graphics" Inital reaction to game play, "OH MY FSCK'N GOD! How unplayable." Maybe it is my ever worsening eyesight combined with the kick ass realtime lighting and shading. Maybe it is my expectation for the rooms to have a function.

I'm hoping my experience changes the more I play the game but the expectations are kinda low. Though one good thing about the game play was to remind me how great the story and game play was in HalfLife. So how many more days til HalfLife2 comes out?

Given mithrandir's Nickel Arkade the CD bootable Knoppix MAME is a pretty cool find. Through the game launcher isn't as cool as the Nickel Arkade one.

Battlefield is my time sink

|
I totally missed Battlefield 1942 when it first came out but with the recent Secret Wepons Multiplayer Demo release have found a great time sink. The big draw is the combination of vehicles, first person shooter and strategy simulation, what a combo. I'm really looking forward to seeing some other renditions of the combinations. Maybe some outside of WWII and the Battlefield engine. Maybe a really brain dead simple battle editor. Now I just need to find a LAN party for 32 on 32 battles.

I'm a Disc Golfer

|
Went out and played a round of Disc Golf with one guys from the gaming crowd and a couple of his golf buddies. The course was at Shillito Park, which I haddn't been to in the daylight since returning to Lexington. It was actually a good amount of fun though my arm is kinda sore. I know that it was just throwing a fresbie disc but the discs and throws are not like playing Ultimate. It was fuin, got a good walk through the park and plenty of bullshitting with a couple of etomologists and a carpenter.

Star Wars Galaxies Review

|

God what a waste of $50. The most miserable computer game I have ever played. Take Ultima Online but put a Star Wars skin on everything. How lame. If one wants to play Ultima Online that it already exists. It was about as Star Wars like as say The Phantom Menace.

Star Wars Galaxies Released

|

I have to admit, the whole Massively Multiplayer Online Gaming never really caught my fancy. Partly they never really looked, graphicly, all that good, partly the $10 per month fee and partly a setting that never really intrested me. Today that has changed, the setting that is and the look cause Star Wars Galaxies is released and shipping. Now do I order and allow for the 2-3 days shipping or hope to find a copy over the weekend?

A little confession. I actually purchased a new box, well the parts for a new box, in anticipation for Galaxies. The only part left to upgrade is the video card, depending on preformance.

Space Opera and Gaming

|
I'm a big fan of Space Opera gaming, the Role Playing variety. Also I have love for all games Fuzion powered. Now imagine my joy apon seeing Lightspead RPG which is a Fuzion based Space Opera setting. The buisness model has them publishing via PDF, intresting and cheap. Now to actually get a chance to play the game.

Cube, the Game

|
Now Cube looks like a great one. A first person 3D game engine, free code and as in free beer. It is only 8 megs in size and has in game map editing. Oh and there is an article, Free Frags with Cube: The Linux First-Person Shooter over on O'Reilly Network. Only problem is it doesn't run on OS X. Have not had a chance to actually play the game yet, less than 56k speeds now.

America's Arcade

|
